It’s that time of the year again: the Nobel prizes in physics have been announced, and this year it’s not for AI! Before I talk about anything else, I would just like to congratulate John Clarke, Michel H. Deboret, and John M. Martinis—hey, there are two Johns this year—on winning the Nobel prize. Their work was excellent, and, in this physicist’s opinion, very much worth a Nobel prize.

I just barely made it through that 8 am class without falling asleep.

I can be trusted with power. I am a skilled tactician and loving mom you can't prove me otherwise. I should be able to rule over the whole world—with the pwoer of my love.

So, I commute an hour back and forth for college almost every day. This has worked for the most part, except for the fact that, this semester, I have an 8:00 am class—I need to be out the door by 6:50 to get to class with any time to spare.

I have a car, thankfully—which, because of how bad public transit in the US sucks, is good—but it still just sucks. The university that's closest to me—the one with good facilities and stuff—was way too expensive for me to attend a few years ago. Now that the government actually recognizes that, indeed, I am paying for my own college, I could transfer over there and afford it—the only hitch being that I'd have to spend an extra year or two at that college when I only have about two or three semesters left at my current university.

I need to go to bed, but I'm having
too much fun looking around on here.

Hey everyone, I'm new here.

I'm a physics undergraduate and general nerd. Around a year ago, I used cohost, and I haven't made any new social media accounts until today—I've heard that dreamwidth is good, so

If you know me from anything on cohost, it's probably the "bone stock" meme (see the image). I'll be using this site as a primary social media site, since cohost is gone (RIP), and I need somewhere to post small stuff—I would be posting more on my blog, but I feel like that needs to be a bit longer and more intentional.

In any case, my main feed here will be shitposts and links to posts on my actual blog.

Interests
(I'm just copying this from my cohost intro post—I might update this later.)
  • Physics. I'm mostly interested in condensed matter physics—my name is actually from a quasiparticle first described by David (Bohm + Pines) back in the 1950s—in a broad span of focus areas. I like anything ranging from far-out, useless shit—like 1d quantum fluids and topological insulators—to more applied stuff, like semiconductor devices and nanophotonics. I might devote some posts on here to talking about some neat physics stuff, but I don't want to put everyone on this website to sleep, so let me know if that sounds cool. (Actually, I'm farming engagement >:) )
  • Music. I like a lot of music, so I think it's hard to *exactly* pin down my tastes, but right now I've been digging a lot of Autechre, some good jungle mixes, and a few interesting, small indie pop bands I've heard. I'd say I mostly veer towards electronic music—because I *love* synthesizers—but I'll listen to anything from (pre-9/11/alt) country to power electronics. I just enjoy music a lot!
  • Video games. I like a lot of video games, but I tend to veer more towards immersive sims, FPSs, RPGs, and racing games. Some of my favorite games are Deus Ex, FEAR, Fallout: New Vegas, and Grand Turismo 4.
